It is that time of the year again when VECTOR is asked to provide communications support to the Celebration of Light. This international event will feature fireworks set to music orchestrated by participating countries. This is the largest spectator event in Canada and
it is VECTOR's single largest event requiring 20-30 operators per evening. We are pleased to be asked to participate year after year as it provides a great training opportunity. For more information on this event please see www.celebration-of-light.com.
Each show last approximately 25 minutes although the finale extends to approximately 30 minutes. VECTOR volunteers have played a significant role over the years, providing communications between emergency services, volunteers and the EOC and have been responsible for passing routine, priority and emergency traffic. It is as realistic an exercise as we could hope to have and closely simulates emergency operations. This year again we hope to field at least 30 volunteers (hopefully more) on each night to support this activation request. There will be positions at the Coast Guard, E-Comm, 2 Lifeguard stations and of course along the beach front. As communicators, you will not spend the night guarding a barricade, you will be actively assisting in pairs to report any incidents or to pass information. Communications for the event will start at 18:00 hours each evening and usually wrap up by midnight. If you can spare one or more of these evenings and would like to volunteer for this event, please respond via e-mail. Don't forget to forward your name, callsign, availability dates, phone numbers, e-mail address and of course your T-Shirt size. Further details regarding your position etc. will be forwarded via email the week prior to the first night.

The VECTOR CERV Project
The 'bus' or Communications Emergency Response Vehicle (CERV) as it is now known is complete and it has a license plate - VA7VCT. VECTOR volunteers have worked very hard to convert a former transit bus to a state-of-the-art mobile communications centre for emergency use and for events. View the photos and read more about this ambitious project in the descriptive brochure and on the CERV web page.

Amateur Radio 'Swap 'n Sell' Opportunity
VECTOR has initiated a swap 'n sell segment as part of the weekly Wednesday Net. Items must be amateur radio related. If you have an item to sell or trade, or if you are looking for a particular amateur radio item, be prepared to list it on the air. You will need a brief description, price and contact telephone number or email address. Net Control will not be keeping records so it will be your responsibility to broadcast it and to answer any follow-up questions. You may list for as many weeks as you wish but you must re-broadcast your ad yourself weekly. The VECTOR weekly net is held on VE7RPT, 146.940(-)MHz, Wednesday evening at 8pm.
